Baramulla, July 18:“Take care to get what you like or you would be forced to like what you get” this saying is fit for the present helpless contractual lecture’s community of the state. Playing hides and seeks with lives of contractual lectures, the present coalition by making sky touching claims about the improving educational scenario in government institutions, render lives of both the lectures and students quite miserable with low emoluments. And here is where contractual base employment has been firstly introduced to run the most important department of the state.
These lectures and teachers work hard to earn the little rather half wages and are working under uncertainty, the only thing authorities can do about them is worsen their present state by forcing “discriminatory” restraints on them. Not only this, but also these ill-fated contractual are afraid of any confrontation or disagreement with the administration or students that may cast them their jobs.
Asserting the government, Heena Bano (name changed) an English lecture in government college said “it is the government which discriminates and deprives us in all spheres as we are working against vacant posts that are yet to be filled”. “The tragedy is that we entrusted by government with noble responsibilities of grooming the future gent ration of the state, what is it all about? She questioned.
Sajad Ahamd another college contractual lecturer of political science in said, “We are being discriminated and marginalized as we are appointed for the period of sixty days and after that it unto the principals to retain or throw out on the basis of their personal or impersonal judgments”.
“Not only this scare, we are facing many other agonies as in get-togethers, excursions, parties, meetings and extra-curriculum activities we are being put apart and not allowed to even speak” he added.
Another Higher secondary school lecturer Ab.Rashid said “ our contractual status are being made public and even non- teaching staff and students are being informed about our job insecurity ,consequently even students do not bestow proper respect to us.,”
What makes the situation worse is that the time table for the contractuals is allegedly being made and modified by general line teachers who are having the discretion of being permanent employees of the colleges and higher secondries.
Samdeep kour a higher secondary contractual said “we are forced to take various lower classes in higher secondary as 9th, 10th and extra classes and are left under mercy of authorities.”
As far the performance of conractuals is concerned the students review their performance satisfactory rather better than some of the permanent faculty lectures.
As it is said the students are the best judges. Mavish one of the student of girls higher secondary school Baramulla said, “In comparison with the permanent lectures, the contractuals are more competent, intelligent, cooperative and intelligible”
Another student Omer of Degree college Baramulla said, “we are treated as students not as subjects as these construal lectures belong moreover to our age group and understand our feelings.’
